“JICA Group Training Course on Sustainable Port Development and Planning (For Port Engineer)” has started!!

The captioned course started on June 6th and will last until August 12th. This year we welcomed 16 participants from 12 countries including Angola, Cambodia, Indonesia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Tonga, and Viet Nam.
Each participant brought a report outlining the current status of their ports and made a presentation in front of other participants and the panel.
For the next step, they are expected to elaborate a feasible action plan for their own country following a series of lectures which will be given by members of OCDI, other port-related agencies, NILIM *and PARI**.
During the two-and-a-half month program, they will visit Japanese port facilities, such as container/ bulk terminals with the cooperation of regional offices of MLIT*** and port management bodies. We hope participants will apply some of the technologies implemented in Japan, such as effective use of existing structures, cost-effectiveness and environmental-friendliness, to port development in their own countries.
NILIM*: National Institute for Land and Infrastructure Management
PARI**: Port and Airport Research Institute
MLIT***: Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism
