Bangladeshʼ Country-Specific Training Program “Port Policy and Management” Successfully Held

The JICA Country-Specific Training Program for Bangladesh (“Project for Capacity Development on Operation, Maintenance and Management in Matarbari Port Phase 2”) took place over 11 days from May 19 to May 29, 2025.

Five members from the Chittagong Port Authority and the Ministry of Shipping visited Japan to gain insights into efficient port operations in preparation for the opening of Matarbari Port currently under construction.

The training program included visits to six major ports across Japan—Kashima, Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Kobe, and Hakata—where the participants studied a range of best practices. These included measures to ease traffic congestion around terminals, efficient cargo management and operations at container terminals and warehouses, and the introduction of environmentally friendly cargo-handling equipment.

This study tour provided practical knowledge and insights to address the challenges currently faced by Chittagong Port and is expected to contribute to the smooth development and sustainable operation of Matarbari Port.
