JICA “Group and Region Focused Training Course on Port Maintenance Planning was held from October 7th to October 30th, 2025. A total of 10 participants from 9 countries took part in the training course.

JICA’s port sector “Group and Region Focused Training Course” includes three courses: “Strategic Port Development, Administration and Management (For Port Manager),” Sustainable Port Development and Planning (For Port Engineer),” and “Port Maintenance Planning.” This course is designed for young engineers working in port management organizations, aiming to provide them with practical knowledge and skills related to port maintenance planning.

This training program was conducted at JICA Yokohama, with lectures also held at PARI and NILIM in Yokosuka. Port facility tours included visits to three ports across Japan—Yokohama, Tokyo and Niigata. In addition, participants visited factories manufacturing cargo handling machinery and rubber fenders. Participants learned about port maintenance in Japan such as channel dredging in Niigata Port using ‘Hakusan’, a trailing suction hopper dredger, and maintenance activities for Container Handling Equipment.
