OCDI holds a seminar on Cambodia’s recently enacted Law on Waterway Transportation

OCDI held a seminar on the recently enacted Law on Waterway Transportation in the Kingdom of Cambodia on May 15th, 2024, in Akasaka, Tokyo.
Promulgated in March 2024, the new law, which is the fruit of many years of cooperation between Japan and Cambodia, includes provisions for port management and operation. The seminar was held as part of the “JICA Project for Strengthening Capacity for Port Administration” and coincided with the visit to Japan by H.E. Eang Vengsun, Secretary of State, Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT), and senior officials. About 60 people, including port managers, port-related organizations, marine contractors, and consulting firms attended the seminar.
Speaking on behalf of he organizers, Mr. Seiichi Ozaki, Senior Technical Officer of JICA Civil Infrastructure Department, delivered the opening remarks. Mr. Masahiro Inada, Director-General of the Ports and Harbors Bureau, the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, congratulated Cambodia on the enactment of the Law and expressed his expectation that Cambodia and Japan would further strengthen cooperation. As a guest of honor, H.E. TUY RY, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Embassy of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Japan, expressed his gratitude for the support from Japan not only in the transport and port sectors but also in a wide range of areas.
During the seminar, Mr. Mak Sideth, Director-General of Waterway Maritime Transport and Ports, MPWT, introduced the structure of the Law and main contents of port chapters. He also requested support from the Japanese side to make the Law functional through ministerial orders and regulations.
