Port Technology Workshop Held in Fiji
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan, with support from OCDI, hosted the “Bilateral Workshop on Port Technology between Fiji and Japan” in Suva, the capital of Fiji, on June 12th, 2025.
Participants from Japan included MLIT’s Ports and Harbours Bureau, the Embassy of Japan, JICA Fiji Office, and representatives from port construction and steel companies. From Fiji, representatives from the Ministry of Public Works and Meteorological Services, Fiji Ports Corporation, Maritime Safety Authority, and the Investment Board attended the workshop. Over 80 people participated in total.
The Fijian side introduced trends in Pacific maritime transport and ongoing projects for upgrading ports. The Japanese side introduced technologies such as steel port structures and ground improvement methods which are expected to be in demand at ports in Oceania including Fiji.
On June 13th, participants visited Suva Port, Fiji’s largest international port, and actively exchanged views on maintenance methods and future upgrades.
