Training Program Conducted for Suez Canal Authority Officials

A country-focused training program was conducted from May to November 2023 as part of JICA’s “Project for Capacity Development on Marketing Strategy Formulation for Suez Canal Transit in the Arab Republic of Egypt”.

The training aimed at enhancing SCA’s ability to formulate marketing strategies targeting vessels transiting the Suez Canal. A total of 19 SCA officials, including managers and operational staff, took part in the program.

Through discussions with customers such as shipping companies and cargo owners, participants identified and analyzed requests and needs related to transit and enhanced their customer insight capabilities, which form the foundation for marketing strategy development.

In parallel, participants acquired up-to-date knowledge and practical skills essential for strategic management of the Suez Canal. This included field research (for managers) on development trends for next-generation fuel ships using hydrogen, ammonia, and other fuels, which are being deployed by the shipping industry to achieve carbon neutrality. It also included practical exercises (for operational staff) in building demand forecasting models, which form the basis for predicting canal transit vessel numbers.
