<Participating countries>

  1. 1. Lao PDR
  2. 2. Myanmar
  3. 3. The Philippines
  4. 4. Thailand
  5. 5. Viet Nam

This training course was conducted based on the Japan-ASEAN Technical Cooperation Agreement (TCA)* signed on May 13th, 2019.

The aim of the training course is to improve the strategic port administration and operation management capabilities of ASEAN countries as well as promote maritime cooperation, which is one of the main fields of AOIP. The cooperation of the International Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Port Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, which recognize the importance of strengthening diplomatic relations with ASEAN, was instrumental in successfully conducting an online course.

To make best use of the online format, some lectures from the SUSTAINABLE PORT DEVELOPMENT AND PLANNING (FOR PORT ENGINEERS) training course were incorporated into the training course.

This training course will continue as participants are expected to be able to visit ports in Japan and Thailand from July 2021 where they will learn about port development, strategic port administration and management in Japan and be introduced to examples of Japanese cooperation in overseas coastal area development in Thailand. In addition, STRATEGIC PORT ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT (FOR PORT MANAGERS), will again be held online in the new year for non-ASEAN countries.

*The Japan-ASEAN Technical Cooperation Agreement calls for technical cooperation to be provided to ASEAN members through the dispatch of experts and training abroad. With the signing of the agreement, we will assist in establishing unified institutional design and standards for the 10 ASEAN member countries, directly targeting the ASEAN community and its related organizations which is expected to be more effective than efforts previously made through bilateral cooperation.
