OCDI celebrated its 50th anniversary this year. To mark this milestone, OCDI held its 50th Anniversary Commemorative Lecture and Anniversary Reception on July 23, 2026, at the Hotel Grand Arc Hanzomon.

The lecture session and reception were attended by approximately 190 and 280 participants, respectively, and both were highly successful. 

1.Commemorative Lecture

The lecture session opened with remarks by Mr. Miyake, President of OCDI. This was followed by a presentation by Mr. Kanno, Chief Researcher of OCDI, titled “50 Years of OCDI” (lecture materials available here).

Subsequently, Ms. Miyazaki, Executive Senior Vice President of JICA, delivered a presentation titled “The Future of International Cooperation in Light of the Global Situation: Perspectives Through Port Development.” Mr. Kusakabe, Executive Director of the International Press-in Association (IPA), then gave a presentation on “Expectations for OCDI.”

 Mr. Abe, Director-General of the Ports and Harbours Bureau, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), also delivered remarks. The lecture session concluded with closing remarks by Mr. Motono, Senior Executive Director of OCDI.

2.Anniversary Reception

The Anniversary Reception was attended by many guests and stakeholders. The reception provided an opportunity to look back on OCDI’s achievements over the past 50 years and to share expectations for its future development.
