Seminar
JICA “Group and Region Focused Training Course on Sustainable Port Development and Planning (For Port Engineer)” has started.
The JICA Training Program on Sustainable Port Development and Planning (for Port Engineers) for FY 2026 commenced on May 18th. This year, the program brings together 19 participants from 15 countries and will run for approximately one and a half months, concluding on July 2nd.
The program begins with presentations of Country Reports prepared by the participants prior to their arrival in Japan. During the training period, participants will attend 42 lectures and take part in technical visits to seven port facilities, including those in Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, and Hakata. In addition, visits are arranged to a national research institute in Kurihama, a research facility of a private construction company related to port development in Ibaraki, as well as manufacturing plants producing fenders and bollards. The program is designed not only to provide academic knowledge but also to enhance participants’ understanding of how such knowledge is applied and managed in real-world settings.
Participants are also entrusted with an important mission: throughout the training period, they are required to develop an Action Plan addressing issues faced by their own ports or organizations. With the support of experienced advisors, they will strive to create Action Plans that incorporate insights and experience gained from lectures and field visits – plans that will remain useful even after they return home. The program concludes with final presentations, and we sincerely hope to see the participants’ proud faces when it’s all over.
We wish all participants the very best in their efforts!
